Find your previous MP or Constituency Pitfalls of recommending candidates |
Vote pro-life in 2005Do you consider the right to life to be the most fundamental human right? If so then this site is for you. I have set up this site in order to make it possible for pro-lifers to obtain information on candidates in an easily understandable form. During the last election no-one had set up anything like this. The best was a site that gave a huge list of MPs and how they voted, although it was incredibly difficult to understand the key that had been used. The key to this site is very simple. The more "YES"s the more "pro-life" the MP or candidate is. The more "NO"s the more "anti-life" the MP or candidate is. In some cases MPs have not voted on any of these issues (or may have been tellers. Tellers are not counted in the vote). Whilst this site has the support of several Pro-life groups, none of their funds have gone into setting it up. Some of these groups are charities and therefore prevented from political campaigning such as this. There are no such restrictions on myself. I would like to thank all of those who have helped in putting this site together. That includes the House of Commons information office, who have dealt admirably with my long telephone calls. I'm also grateful that both Hansard and the EDM database are both available on-line, as this makes it much easier to verify voting records than working through a paper copy. About the authorI spend most of my time playing with (oops, I mean working on) computers. I've over twenty years experience in computing. The first computer I programmed was a Commodore PET, and the first one that I bought was the ORIC-1 (ping, zap and explode to those who can remember it). I've written games for several "home computers" eg Commodore 64. I've programmed minicomputers, mainframes and PCs in more languages than I care to remember. I've a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Sussex (I scraped through the maths part) and I still use what I learned in computing for my daily work. That includes the work on this site. In addition, I have been an active pro-life campaigner for 12 years, the last 4 of which have been spent working on the ProLife Alliance website. I also have over 2 years experience with caring for terminally ill and elderly people. I often had long discussions with colleagues about the "value" of these peoples lives, especially those with senile dementia. Their view was often that their lives were not worth living, something that I could not agree with even knowing how hard it was to care for them. Last Updated: 25/05/2001 10:05:43 |
